Clarifying a Mission Through Thoughtful Design
Thornwell is a Christian ministry dedicated to providing safe, nurturing environments where children and families are educated, equipped, and supported to thrive. They approached this project seeking a refreshed homepage that more clearly highlighted their programs and meaningful ways to get involved. A key challenge was simplifying an overextended navigation system, refocusing the site structure to help users quickly understand Thornwell’s mission and take action without feeling overwhelmed.
A Homepage Built to Guide and Inspire
The redesigned homepage leads with an engaging banner image that immediately communicates Thornwell’s heart and purpose. Just below the fold, a donation section invites users to take action early in their journey, followed by a dedicated volunteer section that encourages deeper engagement. The layout then flows naturally into Thornwell’s programs, blogs and news, and a final section connecting users to the online shop before reaching the footer. Throughout the page, new visual design elements were introduced by framing powerful photography within the same ring motif found in Thornwell’s logo, creating cohesion and reinforcing brand identity.
Focused Navigation with Clear Priorities
The navigation and footer were restructured with intention, emphasizing clarity and usability. Programs and Ways to Get Involved were elevated as the primary dropdown items, reflecting the organization’s core goals and user needs. These priorities were reinforced with prominent buttons above the fold, ensuring multiple clear pathways for engagement. By reducing clutter and organizing content around what matters most, the new navigation creates a more intuitive experience that supports Thornwell’s mission at every step.
